This is where we share with you the consultation responses and other lobbying activities undertaken on your behalf. So far, we have made nine recent responses to government consultations:
- THE NUTBROWN REVIEW OF EARLY EDUCATION AND CHILDCARE QUALIFICATIONS
We have now submitted our response to the Nutbrown Review and you can read it here. As you will no doubt remember, both our Chair (Trisha Maynard) and our President (Wendy Scott) serve on the Review Panel so we are all well represented. We will post some new information as soon as we have it. In the meantime, if you've any comments on our TACTYC submission, please contact Dr Jane Payler.
- EYFS Consultation – our response (September 2011)
You will no doubt have seen the EYFS Consultation very recently published by the English government. The TACTYC Exec has many concerns about some of the retrograde steps apparent in this consultation and we have put together our response.
We feel that it's crucial to get this new version of the EYFS right for the children in our care as well as for early years practitioners who have made such efforts to implement the many demands made on them by successive governments. We do hope you will find the response useful and informative.
- SPECIAL NEEDS GOVERNMENT CONSULTATION (June 2011)
TACTYC has made its response to the current government consultation on Special Educational Needs. You will find our response here. We hope you will find the comments interesting and useful. If you have any comments, please contact either Jan Georgeson or Anita Soni.
- Phonics testing consultation response form (January 2011)
ANTI-PHONICS TESTING CAMPAIGN
As you know, TACTYC was instrumental in setting up a petition against testing young children's phonic knowledge. Whilst we are definitely for phonics teaching, we feel strongly that it is far too early for formalised testing in Year 1 – the evaluation of the phonics testing pilot has shown that a majority of teachers and schools felt they learned little about the children's phonic skills from the pilot 'check'. An informal group led by ULKA and including TACTYC, is now meeting regularly to try to get the government to reconsider its position regarding phonics testing. To this end, UKLA has written a letter to Michael Gove/Nick Gibb, which TACTYC has signed. You can find the letter here.
- Tickell Review of the Early Years Foundation Stage ( EYFS) (September 2010)
- Independent Review of Primary Curriculum - recommendation 14(1) - points of entry into reception class (November 2009)
- Rose Interim Review of the Primary Curriculum (February 2009)
- New Inquiry into Teacher Training (February 2009)
- The Play Consultation - Fair Play (July 2008)
- The Rose Primary Review (April 2008)
- The Williams Maths Review (April 2008)
