TACTYC: Together And Committed To Young Children has long been an active member of the Early Years Coalition (EYC), working alongside sector partners to strengthen practice, research, and professional dialogue across early childhood education and care.
Today, the Coalition launches the updated and expanded second edition of Birth to 5 Matters (Bto5M) a widely used, non-statutory guidance resource supporting the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). The revised edition includes updated content throughout, as well as new and expanded sections reflecting current priorities across the sector.
TACTYC’s longstanding role in the Coalition
As a professional body committed to evidence informed practice and the status of the early years workforce, TACTYC has consistently contributed to Coalition work bringing research, practitioner insight, and policy awareness into shared sector guidance.
In the recent review and revision of Birth to 5 Matters, TACTYC has again played an active role, including through consultation and working group activity that helped inform the final text.
Trustee's Contributions
TACTYC trustees who have contributed to Birth to 5 Matters (either the first edition, the second edition, or both) include Dr Viki Veale, Dr Sue Allingham, Eleanor Milligan, Dr Elizabeth Carruthers, and Richard Waite.
What’s new in the second edition?
The second edition includes refreshed and updated guidance across the document, plus new areas that reflect emerging evidence, changing contexts, and sector priorities. These include new sections on:
• Digital pedagogy
• Sustainability
• Birth to 2
• Reception and beyond
Alongside the updated guidance, the Birth to 5 Matters website has been redesigned to improve accessibility and navigation, with an expanded bank of free-to-access resources.
